Contacts

This is a private reference site, not a sheriff's office, jail, court, or records desk. It cannot confirm whether someone is in custody, release a detainee, post bond, schedule visits, or retrieve official booking records. Those questions must go to the government office or detention facility that controls the record.

Where to Start

San Juan County does not operate a jail, so custody and records questions often split between Silverton and Durango. Use the San Juan County Sheriff's Office for local arrest and criminal-justice records questions. Use La Plata County Detention Facility for current jail custody, bond, visitation, mail, money, and detention service questions.

San Juan County's open-records page says the county tries to respond within three working days. If extenuating circumstances apply, that response period may be extended by up to seven working days. Standard photocopies are generally not more than $0.25 per page unless actual costs are higher.

  • For someone believed to be in the contracted jail, start with jail inmate records and the La Plata/VINELink custody route.
  • For booking photos and public-record limits, use the jail roster mugshots page and verify with the records custodian.
  • For charges filed after a San Juan arrest, use court records after a jail arrest and the Colorado Judicial Branch record request form.
  • For detention services, use the La Plata County Detention Facility page listed in the footer.
  • For a sentenced Colorado prisoner, use the statewide Colorado Department of Corrections inmate locator.
  • For a federal sentence or immigration detention question, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator System.
